A Ferleon cooking pot is very durable and easy to maintain. But there are a couple of things that will help you extend the life of your cooking pot.
Never put it on a source of heat when empty
First tip: always ensure there is oil or water in the cooking pot when placing it on a heat source. Never let a pan boil dry as this can permanently damage the enamel coating and distort the base. This will happen to any pan left to boil dry.
Watch out for extreme temperature differences
Do you use an induction cooker? You can use “boost”, but a gradual increase in temperature is always better. One of the main advantages of cast iron is that the pot holds the heat well, but a rapid temperature change can result in damage and can burn food. Let the cooking pot cool before cleaning it. This way you avoid thermal shock.
Wash it immediately
Once the pan has cooled down, it is best to wash it straight away by hand. If this is not possible, then we would recommend you to rinse the pan out to get rid of any remains of food.
Leave to soak
Baked-on food? It is best to leave the pot or pan to soak in some lukewarm water with detergent. We would recommend you to rinse with fresh water from time to time, to stop any discolouration to the enamel. If the remains are really stubborn, then add a little baking soda and water and heat up gently.
Let it shine
You can wash our cooking pots in your dishwasher. But check the glasses you put in the dishwasher. It might be that they come out with a coating of limescale. We would then recommend that you do not put the pot or pan in the dishwasher, because this may dull the finish of the enamel layer. To make your Ferleon pot shine, it is best to use a soft dish brush, warm water and detergent without caustic products. What if you have let it soak and you still cannot get the pot clean? Then you can think about using a soft sponge. Spots of limescale can easily be removed with a little vinegar.
No sharp utensils
Scratching a pan is never a good idea. Never use sharp utensils, scrubbers or abrasive products for cleaning. It is best to use plastic or wooden spatulas in pots and pans. Never cut up food in your pot or pan!
Dry well
Dry your pot thoroughly before putting it away, the upper edge can be more prone to oxidation. This also extends the life of enamel layer.
